Monett Jaycees announce start of annual Thanksgiving basket drive

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

The Monett Jaycees will collect food donations for Thanksgiving baskets from Nov. 7 through Nov. 20. The drive is one of the biggest of the year to assist less fortunate families in the Monett area.

Donation boxes will be set up at Save-A-Lot, Ramey Supermarket and at the U.S. Bank branch at Sixth and Broadway.

Donations can be geared to assist three different family sizes: a family of one to three people; a medium-sized family of four to five people; and a large family of six to eight people.

Baskets will include milk, eggs, turkeys, a package of rolls, five-pound bags of potatoes, boxes of stuffing and canned vegetables.

Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted at the drop boxes. Financial donations or perishable items can be donated by calling 669-0643. Audrey White is project chairman, and Julie Butler is co-chairman.

Families eligible to a basket must live in the 65708 zip code. The deadline to apply to receive a food basket is Nov. 15. To process an application, the Jaycees need to know the number of adults and children in a family, the name and address and a contact phone number.

Nominations for eligible families can be send to PO Box 406 or sent by e-mail to monettjaycees@yahoo.com. Baskets are limited to the first 15 families to apply.
