The Dorcas Ladies Aid met on Oct. 6. Judy Lehde, president, called the meeting to order and presented the welcome.
The worship was given by Shirley Stanford on "Reformation" from Portals of Prayer. "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" was sung by the group with Nadine Obermann as the pianist.
Lehde presented the program entitled "Comfort and Compassion." Members read various verses from the Bible relating to comfort, compassion and promises. "Comfort, Comfort, Ye My People" was sung.
Correspondence was read and the regular offering was taken. Committee reports were given. Ruth Nelson reported that on Oct. 1 there was a balance of $131.30 in the birthday fund and Doris Meyer has the only October birthday. A visitors report was given.
Obermann read a report thanking everyone who helped on the workday. There were 11 quilts made. On Mission Festival Sunday, 10 quilts were sent for the needy in the St. Louis area. On LWML Sunday, 13 quilts were sent to Joplin tornado victims.
Ethel Helmkamp gave the booklet "Marriage Matters" to Elizabeth Doss and Justin Harper who were married on Oct. 1.
The president thanked those who attended and brought food for the LWML dinner. There were 21 members and 24 guests present including five Laborers for Christ working in the Joplin area.
It was announced that the current officers have agreed to serve another year and the current committee members will remain.
The group is eligible to have a Young Women Representative at the Missouri District Convention in June. Lehde has nomination forms and forms for submitting a banner design for the convention.
The Carthage ingathering at the November rally will be new Christmas decorations for families of Immanuel Lutheran Church who lost homes in the tornado. A motion was made to spend $50 for an item to take to the ingathering. Motion was passed.
The president stated the zone board announced all Ingathering at rallies are to be "Mission Minded."
Members agreed to have a salad supper and invite guests to the August 2012 meeting. Judy Lehde, Jeannie Stoltz and Nadine Obermann signed up to go to the Carthage rally to be held Nov. 5. Volunteers to bake cookies for the Reformation service on Oct. 30 are Shirley Brandt, Doris Meyer and Judy Lehde. Volunteers to bake cookies for the Bible Institute are Nadine Obermann, Grace Doss, Evelyn Bracht, Shirley Brandt, Erna Doss and Doris Meyer.
The president thanked the hostesses, Grace Doss and Erna Doss. The meeting closed with the singing of the last two verses of "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God."
