A single car accident impacted a new utility pole in Monett and resulted in the arrest of the driver.

According to the Monett Police Department, a Monett woman drove east on Hazel Street at a high rate of speed in a 1998 Mazda. The car turned south on Washington, failed to fully make the turn and collided with a utility pole on the east side of Washington.

The driver attempted to leave the scene, but the car was stopped a block away. Officer Ryan Hutton responded to the scene.

The driver had apparent injuries but refused care. She was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated and was later released.

An electric department crew was summoned to review damage to the new utility pole, which was deemed minimal. Fire Chief Tom Jones said one of the older poles would have likely snapped with the impact.
