The Pierce City Eagles fell 49-20 to the Marionville Comets in Class 1, District 3 play Friday night.

After a scoreless first quarter, Marionville broke on top 7-0 on Brandon Benn's four-yard run. The Eagles countered on their next drive with quarterback Cedric O'Hara scoring from a yard out. Curtis Palmer ran in the two-point conversion, and the Eagles led 8-7.

Pierce City struggled to slow down the Marionville attack. By the time the Eagles' Wayne Joe Sooter scored Pierce City's second touchdown on a 21-yard catch, the Comets had run off 21 points with a one-yard run by Dillon Rapp, a 32-yard pass from Benn to Ryan White and another10-yard run by Benn.

Sooter's score cut the lead to 28-14 in the third quarter, but the Comets shut the door with touchdown runs of two and 15 yards by Smith and Benn respectively.

Sooter scored the Eagles' final touchdown on an 11-yard pass from O'Hara to provide the final 49-20 margin of victory.

Pierce City (4-5) will conclude the season on Thursday night at home against Skyline. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
