Plans are being completed for the 17th annual Missouri Health Care Association District IV Golden Age Games.
Monett competitions will be held at the Monett High School from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21. Registration will be held at 9 a.m., and opening ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. Games will also be held at Boliver on Friday, Oct. 28. The Mt. Grove games were held on Oct. 7. Participation will consist of 15 facilities with approximately 400 participants competing.
The Golden Age Games are open to all residents of Missouri Healthcare Association member facilities.
The Monett games will be hosted by Lacoba Homes. Participants will compete in the day-long event in contests such as horseshoe toss, basketball toss, soccer kick, bingo, quiz bowl, craft competition, wheel chair races, cow milking and hog calling contests.
The games give the residents who are participating the opportunity to become part of a team striving toward a common goal. Many residents return year after year to compete in the games and begin preparing for the events months in advance.
Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded for first through fifth place winners in each category. Each resident will receive a certificate for his or her participation in the games, and each facility will receive a team participation plaque.
In addition, the traveling Spirit Cup will be presented to the facility that displays the most team spirit during the competition. First, second and third place high team score plaques will be awarded.
This year's participants include: Lacoba Homes, Monett; Lawrence County Manor, Mt. Vernon; Cassville Health and Rehabilitation; Carthage Health and Rehabilitation; Christian Health Care, Republic; Golden Living Center, Anderson; Autumn Court, Mt. Vernon; Seneca House; Good Shepherd, Lockwood; Medicalodges, Neosho; Joplin Health and Rehabilitation; Maranatha Village, Springfield; Brookhaven, Springfield; Benchmark Health Care, Monett; and Granby House.
