Marvin D. Gilliam, 81, of Monett passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011 at Cox Monett Hospital. He was born on Sept. 30, 1930 in Ash Grove, MO, the son of Homer and Hazel (Hawkins) Gilliam. He was united in marriage on May 22, 1949 to Violet Tingle in Joplin, MO and she survives.
He was a retired pastor for the Assemblies of God Church in Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois and served in the Army during the Korean War.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Violet; two sons: Richard Gilliam, of Lake Havasu, AZ; and Gregory Gilliam, of Monett, MO; two daughters: Loretta Adkins, of Apopka, FL; and Renae McDonald, of Golden City, MO; two brothers: Carl Gilliam, and Howard Gilliam, both of Webb City, MO; 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, Homer and Hazel, and one sister: Merlene Hartley, Carthage, MO.
Visitation will be held Thursday Oct. 20, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, MO. Services will be held Friday Oct. 21, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Chapel in Monett with Rev. Arnold Ray Evans officiating. Burial will be at Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Springfield, MO.
