James P. (JP) Dickey won the Loren Reid Service Award presented by the Speech and Theatre Association of Missouri (STAM). This award is given to a person who distinguishes him or herself on behalf of the speech and/or theatre disciplines. Nominations are submitted to a committee who recommends the winner.
Dickey's nomination was made by speech and debate instructors, David Watkins, of Neosho, and Marilyn Mann, of Monett.
"I am usually never at a loss for words, but this time I was," said Dickey. "This award is something I never expected. The past recipients are instructors and colleagues for whom I have the deepest respect and admiration. In fact, having David and Marilyn nominate me is an honor in itself."
In August 2000, Dickey returned to Crowder College as an instructor. He is a former graduate of Crowder College.
