The Pierce City Lady Eagles and Marionville Lady Comets softball teams square off in the Missouri Class 2 sectional playoffs on Thursday in Marionville.
The game will mark the third time these teams have battled this year with each squad claiming a 5-1 victory.
"We are familiar with each other," said Pierce City coach Darin Henderson. "Marionville does a lot of things well. It will be a challenge."
The Lady Eagles were winners of the Spring River Valley Conference and claimed their second consecutive district title with a 10-0 win over Purdy.
"The biggest difference between this year and last is that we feel more confident and comfortable in the games we play," said Henderson. "Last year, we hoped to win ,and this year, we expect to win games."
Without a doubt, the Lady Eagles are on a roll. Piece City has score 39 runs in its last three games and has held its opponents to 7.
"I keep telling the girls to put the ball in play and good things will happen," said Henderson. "Getting hits and playing solid defense gives us a chance to win in every game."
Mckenzie Moreland will take the mound for Pierce City. This season, Moreland is 21-5 with a 1.66 ERA. She's struck out 162, walked 20 and allowed 109 hits in 170 innings.
Marionville claimed its first district softball title by defeating Conway 11-1 in five innings at Ash Grove on Saturday.
First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
