Spotlight is on local musician

Brandon Rickman, former Purdy resident, is pictured above with his 1-year-old son, Briar, and his bass. Rickman is a full-time bass player for the Lonesome River Band. He and his wife, Amy, live in Nashville, Tenn. He is the son of Gary and Karla Rickman, of Purdy.
Brandon Rickman, son of Gary and Karla Rickman, of Purdy, is a member of the Lonesome River Band, which will be performing at South Haven Baptist church in Springfield, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14.

Rickman is a 1995 graduate of Purdy High School and currently lives in Nashville, Tenn. He plays the upright bass fulltime for the band and has been with the Lonesome River Band for approximately 10 years.

Rickman is also a guitarist, lead singer and song writer. He is a product of a musical family, growing up playing the guitar. He began playing the upright bass right before playing his first show as a member of the bluegrass gospel group, New Tradition.

The Lonesome River Band will perform with Steve Martin on the "Late Show with David Letterman" on Nov. 11. Martin has announced that Sammy Shelor, the banjo player and leader of the band, is the second winner of the Steve Martin prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass, which comes with a $50,000 prize.
