For the second consecutive year, the Pierce City Lady Eagles softball team claimed the Missouri Class 2, District 10 title with a 10-0, six-inning victory over Purdy.

Pierce City took control of the game early, scoring five runs in the first inning.

Bailee Hayward was hit by a pitch. Mckenzie Moreland doubled to score Hayward. Makina Kelley walked, and Sara Stearns ripped a double to score Moreland.

Gabby Phillips extended the inning, hitting a two-RBI double that scored Kelley and Stearns. Faith Strong laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to score Phillips.

Purdy made some noise in the bottom of the second inning.

Addy Roller led off the inning with a single. Roller moved to third on a ground out by Tori Wood. Two Purdy ground balls were unable to score Roller, and Pierce City held.

Seizing the momentum generated on defense, Pierce City added to the lead in the top of the third.

Stearns opened the frame with her second double. Phillips followed, reaching on an error. Jade Winsea singled to load the bases. Strong then doubled to score Stearn, Phillips and Windsea.

Pierce City's defense only allowed Purdy batters to reach base two more times in securing the victory.

Hayward finished the game with a walk, one triple, a run scored and one stolen base. Moreland added a double, one single, one RBI, a stolen base and a run scored. Kelley finished with two walks, two runs and three stolen bases. Stearns had two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored.

Moreland picked up the victory. She struck out three and only allowed three hits in six innings.

Pierce City travels to Marionville to face the District 9 champion Lady Comets on Wednesday.

This will be the third meeting between the two squads this season. Each team owns a 5-1 victory. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
