The Monett Cubs soccer team dropped a pair of matches this week.

On Tuesday, Monett fell 3-2 to College Heights.

The Cougars built a 3-0 lead and were in complete command for the first 70 minutes of the game.

Monett woke up when Francisco Morales score in the 76th minute. Two minutes later Morales found the back of the net again.

Monett would get one final shot to tie the game, but a leaping save preserved the victory for the Cougars.

"I was proud of the way our kids never put their heads down and kept fighting to the end," said Monett coach Dan Janssen. "Our comeback attempt may have started a little late, but there was no giving up in our team tonight. The kids played hard against a team that plays well with the ball. Our energy level was able to disrupt some of the things they were trying to do.

"Going forward, we need to work on some small things defensively to limit the chances of our opponents and continue to work on some of the basics that we have gotten a little sloppy on in the last few games," said Janssen.

In junior varsity action, Monett won 2-0.

The Cubs' Miseal Cordero and Grant Oganesyan each scored.

On Monday, Monett fell 3-1 to the Central Bulldogs.

Monett's Jairo Rueda, scored the Cubs lone goal off an assist by Morales.

The Cubs will be in action on Thursday against Thomas Jefferson in Joplin. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
