Monett falls to Carl Junction

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

The Monett Lady Cubs softball team fell 5-3 to Carl Junction Tuesday night.

"You could tell by the errors, that both teams were tight and knew what was on the line," said Monett coach Ty Goetz. "We shot ourselves in the foot too many times tonight. We had too many mistakes defensively and running the bases."

Monett scored two runs in the first. Abby Krueger reached on an error and scored on Josee Krueger's two-run home run.

The Lady Bulldogs countered with two runs in the bottom of the second and single tallies in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

"Only one of Carl Junction's five runs was earned," said Goetz. "If we could have made a few defensive plays, we probably win the game. We need to find a way to bounce back and play well this weekend."

Raigan Ratliff went two for three at the plate with a double and two stolen bases. Josee Krueger finish one for two with a home run.

Monett won the junior varsity contest 11-1.

Kendall Bounous and Sydney Bounds had two hits apiece. Cassidy Franke, Haylee Morris, Bonnie Upchurch, Breanna Kelley and Abby Krueger had one hit each.

Monett will be in action on Friday at the Hillcrest Tournament in Springfield. Times, location and opponents can be found on The Monett Times website at www.monett-times.com.
