Drury caravan headed to Purdy

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

The Drury Lady Panthers basketball team will make a Caravan visit to Purdy on Saturday, September 17 to allow fans in that region a chance to get more familiar with the coaches, players and program.

It's the hometown of new DU freshman Shelby White, and fans from all surrounding towns are invited to the First Baptist Church in Purdy from 9 to 11:30 a.m. for a breakfast and a meet-and-greet with the team. Activities will continue across the street in the park after the breakfast, and give fans plenty of time to acquire autographs and meet Coach Steve Harold and all of the Lady Panthers as they gear up for a big 2011-12 campaign.

Drury is coming off a 20-10 season that produced a share of the Great Lakes Valley Conference West (GLVC). title - their fifth in six seasons as a league member - and a ninth consecutive trip to the NCAA-II Tournament, where the Lady Panthers advanced to the Midwest Region semifinals.

The Lady Panthers this season return top players in reigning GLVC Freshman of the Year Bethanie Funderburk and junior guard Katie Pritchard, the nation's leading 3-point shooter in 2009-10 before missing all of last season due to injury. Also returning are the likes of seniors Erica Groose and Kassie Walker, strong sophomore and junior classes and an incoming freshman class that includes White, who helped lead Purdy to a state basketball championship last winter.
