On Sunday, Teresa Stark, the mother of fallen Monett soldier Christopher Stark, will be the guest speaker at a Sept. 11 memorial event that will be held outside the Barry County Courthouse in Cassville beginning at 8 a.m.

Southwest Area Career Center JROTC members Mitchell Cooper, Kendal Cooper, Anthony Benavidez and Nicholas James will begin the memorial service with the presentation of the colors. They will be led by instructor Lt. Col. Maella Lohman.

Cassville High School choir members, directed by Mary Richmiller, will sing the "Star Spangled Banner," and then community members will be invited to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mark Pry, Cassville American Legion Post #118 vice commander, will give the opening prayer, and CW4 Kirk Little, of the United States Army, will offer a timeline of Sept. 11, 2001. Little's presentation will include information on how many lives were lost during the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania.

After a performance of "God Bless America" by the CHS choir, Stark will give a special address.

At the close of the event, Southwest Area Career Center JROTC members David Schofield and Levi Boxley will perform "Taps."

All area community members are encouraged to attend the event.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2011, attacks.
