Dr. Francisco "Frank" Reyes Esparrago Jr., M.D., died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, Sept. 5, 2011. Frank was born on May 8, 1940 in Bacon Sorsogon, Philippines, the only son of Francisco and Maura Esparrago.

He grew up in the Philippines and graduated from the University of Santo Tomas, College of Medicine in 1963. In 1970, Frank finished his internship, surgical residency and fellowship in surgical research at Mount Carmel Mercy Hospital in Detroit. Frank passed the American Board of Surgery in March, 1970, and started his medical practice in Monett, MO., that same year. He became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in October, 1973.

As a dedicated doctor and surgeon, Frank served the Monett community for nearly 40 years, enriching and touching many lives. He will be missed by his family, friends and colleagues.

Frank greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling. He and his wife, Linda, enjoyed trips all over the world, including travel to Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, the Mediterranean and Las Vegas. Frank and Linda celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 28, 2011. Frank was an avid golfer who thoroughly enjoyed winning skins from his Saturday and Sunday games with his buddies.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Maura Esparrago. He is survived by his wife, Linda; and six children: Peter (Julia), of Town and Country, MO, Tony (Melinda), of Overland Park, KS, Mark (Holly), of New York, N.Y., Diane (Todd Rector), of Chicago, IL, Jeff (Dawn), of Omaha, NE, and Patrick "PJ," also of New York, NY; his 11 favorite grandchildren: CJ, Seve, Lindsay, Cole, Dominick, Mia, Jenna, MiMi, Ethan, Quinten and Ella; his sister: Clering Bandong; nephews: Jopet Bandong and Jungene Bandong; and niece: Jocelyn Dale, of Cummings, GA.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Monett with Father Paul McLoughlin officiating. Friends may visit from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett, with rosary to follow. Interment will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Lawrence Church in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
