The Monett Cubs soccer team (3-0) scored three second half goals to pull away from Cassville, with a 4-1 victory on Tuesday night.

"We started a bit slower than what I would have preferred tonight," said Monett Head Coach Dan Janssen. "Cassville was faster to the ball and pressuring us better than we were pressuring them. We were very fortunate that they were unable to convert on their chances and to have a 1-0 lead at the half."

Francisco Morales scored bookend goals for the Cubs with the first one coming at the 26-minute mark off an Eddie Aceves pass. Morales also scored on a Will Snider pass in the 75th minute.

Monett's Travis Thompson scored via a penalty kick in the 53rd minute and five minutes later off a Bryan Beckwith assist.

"We were able to refocus at half time," said Janssen. "Coach Villa and I challenged them to press harder, and the kids really responded well and came out much better in the second half. "They definitely gave us our toughest match so far, so I was very pleased to be able to get a win against a quality team like Cassville," continued Janssen. "Thompson and Morales played well together tonight, and each contributed with a pair of goals. Snider and Tyler Webb played with great energy tonight and put a lot of pressure on their defense and goalkeeper. Defensively, Adolfo Ramirez played another great game and made it tough on the other team to control the ball in the box."

The Cubs junior varsity defeated Cassville 10-0.

Miseal Cordero, Jovany Serrano and Jairo Rueda scored two goals each. Kavan Ply, Enrique Salas, Nathan Webb and Eddie Aceves each scored a goal.

Monett hosts Logan Rogersville on Thursday night. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m.
