A Purdy man is dead following a two-vehicle crash yesterday that occurred on Highway 97 one mile east of Pioneer.
According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 1:45 p.m. when the driver of a 2006 Honda motorcycle, Walter L. Schultz, 52, of Purdy, was attempting to overtake another vehicle and struck a 2011 Ford F150, driven by Marilee Griffin, 59, of Stark City, head on.
Schultz was pronounced dead at the scene by Barry County Deputy Coroner Charles McManus, and the body was transported to Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
Griffin received minor injuries in the wreck and was taken by private vehicle to Freeman Hospital in Neosho. She was wearing a seat belt.
This is Troop D's 66th fatality crash this year.
