The Monett Lady Cubs tennis team dropped a pair of tough matches, falling 9-0 to Aurora on Friday and 8-1 to Nevada on Tuesday.

On Friday, Monett struggled 9-0 against Big 8 conference foe Aurora.

"The girls didn't have the focus that they needed to succeed," said Monett coach Bob Crain. "In order for us to be successful we need to concentrate on the matches at hand and not let the crowd distract us."

On Tuesday, Monett fell 8-1 to Nevada.

"I thought we played with a much better focus tonight," said Crain. "Darian Shields played an excellent match at the #1 spot. Alivia Gilliam was in every set but just came up short. The scores of some of the matches are really deceptive, and it's hard to see how hard the girls are competing."

Shields defeated Leah Creasy 8-3 in #1 singles.

The Monett Lady Cubs squad will be in action on Friday as they host Greenwood. Matches are set to start at 4:30 p.m.
