The Pierce City Lady Eagles (4-0) defeated Sarcoxie 6-3 Tuesday night to open Spring River Valley Conference play.

Pierce City's Mckenzie Moreland picked up the victory allowing four hits and striking out seven batters.

"I am proud of how hard the girls are competing," said Pierce City Head Coach Darin Henderson. "We need to focus a little more on the fundamentals and building team chemistry."

The Lady Eagles struck in the first inning when Bailee Hayward tripled. Hayward scored on Sara Stearns triple.

Pierce City added single runs in the second, fourth and fifth inning and scored two more in the sixth.

Moreland walked to start the bottom of the sixth and Gabby Phillips reached base on an error. Jade Winsea bunted for a single, allowing Moreland to score. Phillips then scored on a balk by Sarcoxie's pitcher.

The Pierce City Lady Eagles travel to McDonald County on Thursday. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
