For the third consecutive year, the Monett Lady Cubs took second place at the Ash Grove Lady Pirate Softball Tournament on Saturday.
"I thought we did some good things today," said Monett Head Coach Ty Goetz. "We ran the bases very well when we were able to get on. We just left a lot of runs off the board. We had a hard time getting the key hit, especially in the championship game. We had plenty of chances to win the championship game, but had two or three mental mistakes that really hurt. It was a good tournament for us to see where we are."
Monett opened the day with a 5-2 victory over a previously undefeated El Dorado Springs team.
Raigan Ratliff went two for three at the plate, with two runs scored and four stolen bases. Josee Krueger was one for three, scored a run and added two stolen bases. Andrea Soriano, Abby Krueger and Brooke Madison each had and RBI for the Lady Cubs.
Allie Krueger picked up the victory on the mound for Monett. She allowed five hits, one earned run and struck out six.
Monett blanked Marionville 3-0 in the semifinals.
Ratliff was the winning pitcher. She scattered three hits and struck out three for the complete game win.
Soriano was two for three at the plate with a double and a triple. Ratliff went two for three with two stolen bases. Allie Krueger, Josee Krueger and Burnside each contributed an RBI.
Monett fell 7-3 to Pleasant Hope in the championship game.

In the third inning, Madison reached on a two base error and stole stole third and scored on errant throw.
In the fourth inning, Soriano led off with a double allowing Kelsey Wiseman to tie the game with a two-run home run.
Pleasant Hope rallied with four unearned runs to provide the final margin of victory.
Monett faces Republic today at 5 p.m. at North Park.
