Important D.C. Trip

Friday, August 26, 2011

Suzette Huntress is pictured in the front row, third from the right.
Suzette Huntress, represening the Clark Center, was part of a group from the Missouri Coalition of Mental Health Centers, that traveled to Washington, D.C., as part of the National Council of Community Mental Health Center's "Hill Day."

This event is a well coordinated effort from every state to send representatives to Washington to visit with their respective representatives and senators about mental health needs. Huntress was member of the Missouri group that visited Rep. Billy Long, Senator Roy Blunt and Senator Claire McCaskill.

"Our goal in attending Hill Day essentially is to create and build relationships with both Congress and Senate staff, as well as our Missouri representatives and senators, in order to relay the real concerns we see in our communities with the people we serve," said Huntress. "This year, I was fortunate enough to deliver hand-written letters from the people we serve directly to Senator Blunt and Representative Long. Both were appreciative of the letters they were handed."

This is the second year Huntress has attended the event in Washington, D.C., representing both the Clark Center and the Missouri Coalition for Mental Health Centers.
