Service project launched

Thursday, August 25, 2011

The First United Metho-dist Church, Liberty United Methodist Church and New Liberty United Methodist Church, of Monett, are joining together in a project called SERVE2011.

All United Methodists across Missouri are being asked by the conference to go into area communities the weekend of Sept. 10-11, "to take church outside the walls."

Project participants will be doing light construction, painting, lawn work and window washing for people who are not able to do these projects.

"We are looking for people who need these types of things done and are not able to do them for themselves," said Joyce Lawrence, First United Methodist Church secretary.

On Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m., there will be a worship service at First United Methodist Church of Monett. On Sunday, Sept. 11, participants will meet at the church at 9 a.m. to be sent to various work sites. Work will be finished by noon, followed by a celebration ceremony at Monett City South Park. Hot dogs will be served with activities and entertainment held throughout the day.

"This is also an evangelism tool so the youth can see the church in action," said Lawrence. "Anyone that wishes to help with this project is invited to participate."

Anyone who needs workers at their home or would like to participate can call the church at 235-7444 or Melva Gressley at 235-5503.
