The girls competed against other area schools, including Kickapoo and Republic, to win the championship. By placing in the regional competition, the squad earned the opportunity to compete at the state level in October for the third year in a row.
This year the seniors choreographed the three-minute routine full of elite stunts, tumbling passes and dancing. After winning the regional competition, the squad is ranked second in the state.
The Monett cheerleaders also earned the opportunity to perform their routine at Hammons Field prior to the Springfield Cardinals baseball game. They will perform on the field on Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m.
"The girls have worked so hard this summer preparing for regionals," said Coach Courtney Goetz. "We had lots of long, hot practices and thankfully they paid off. I am so proud of the girls. They really represented Monett well, and I know they will do the same at state."
"We are so proud," said co-captains Morgan Huntress and Jordan VanLue. "Having five new girls and winning regionals is quite an accomplishment. We are looking forward to state."
Monett's cheerleaders will perform in Columbia in Mizzou's Hearnes Arena on Oct. 2 against squads from all over the state. The girls will continue work hard to earn another victory. With two-and-a-half-hour practices every day, the girls are reaching for the stars to outshine their competition.
