Officers with the Monett Police Department were called to the batting cages at Monett's North Park on Thursday, Aug. 18 to investigate damage to the facility.
Monett Police Chief Tim Schweder said that a person or persons had broken into the facility and thrown the cash register onto the floor. The register was open, but no cash was stolen because the register did not contain any cash.
Two windows, one approximately three-by-four feet in size and the second approximately two-by-two feet in size, were broken. Total damages were estimated to be $500.
"This is the third time this summer that buildings at North Park have been targeted," Schweder said. "In the first two instances, it was the concession stand with a significant amount of candy taken."
Due to the nature of the crime, Schweder said that the Barry-Lawrence Chapter of Crime Stoppers would offer a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the damages.
