The 10th Witt reunion of the descendants of Ferdinand and Mary (Ptach) Witt was held on July 9 at the St. Mary's Church activity center in Pierce City with approximately 430 family members in attendance.

Registration began at 10 a.m. Family members gathered in the gymnasium, which was decorated with the theme "Witt Round-up" using multi-colored bandanas and various other decorations. All family members 85 years or older and/or married 50 years or more were presented with a corsage or boutonniere to be worn throughout the reunion activities. The reunion committee also displayed family memorabilia to include newspaper articles and group photographs of the nine previous reunions dating back to 1984.

A memorial table was set up for family members to place photographs in remembrance of family members who had passed away.

Family member, Robert Chapman, served as master of ceremonies throughout the day. A basket luncheon was held at 11:30 a.m.

A business meeting was lead by Don Kutz at 12:30 p.m. Prizes were awarded to: wisest oldest female, Laura Wolfe; wisest oldest male, Wayne Perry and Raymond Hagedorn; married the longest, Ed and Waunita Witt; newlyweds, married two weeks, Ammy (Meeks) and Garrett Annin; newest member, baby, Jameson "Jay" Towers Brown, son of Darren and Mel Brown; and traveled the farthest, Sgt. U.S. Army Joe Hull, who was on leave from military deployment in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Hull was given a standing ovation for his outstanding service. He is the grandson of Clara Mae (Witt) Hull and the late Jack Hull. Each recipient was given a tote with a second edition Witt Family Cookbook and Witt Family Tree Booklet.

Following the business meeting, a family photograph was coordinated by Scott's Photography. Family members were divided into groups according to their branch of the family tree and were designated by the color they were wearing. The Henry and Francis Witt branch wore purple; the Frank and Mary Witt branch wore green; the Anna and Anton Friday branch wore blue; the Martha and Joe Warth branch wore white; the Bertha and Albert Radke branch wore orange; the August and Anna Witt branch wore yellow; and the Bernard and Anna Witt branch wore red.

The remainder of the afternoon was spent playing Bingo, looking through the second edition Witt Family Cookbook, reading the Family Tree Booklet, visiting and sharing memories with family members.

Those interested in purchasing a Family Tree Booklet or cookbook can call Rhonda Forgey at 417-476-2336.

Special activities for the younger members of the family included a bounce house, kite making, a Witt family egg hunt and playing dress-up. A duck race was held in the evening. Family members were able to purchase a duck for a buck throughout the day. The ducks were placed in the creek behind the activity center, and the first duck crossing the finish line won the race. The winning duck was purchased by Jasmine Kahn who won half of the money.

Many family members attended and participated in the Mass at St. Mary's Church at 4 p.m.

Following the evening dinner, a dance was held with music provided by family member David Jones. During the dance a slide show of photographs from the current reunion and past reunions was shown.
