Two Monett Middle School students, Garrett Pryor and Noel Ceniceros moved quickly to extend a helping hand to the victims of the May 22 tornado in Joplin.

Unable to go to Joplin personally to help, they organized a donation system, placing cannisters at Stars Restaurant, Denali Dreams, Mocha Jo's, Peppers and Company, Grant's restaurant, Save-A-Lot, the Plaza 8 Cinema and Acambaro Restaurant within the first week after the storm.

Pryor and Ceniceros were visible during Monett's Strawberry Festival gathering donations and have now completed their drive, gathering $2,118.76.

A cashier's check for the total has been sent to Convoy of Hope.

Strawberry Festival chairman Shaun Bennett praised the boys for their initiative.
