Monett police and firefighters responded to a bomb threat at the Monett Walmart at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Police Chief Tim Schweder said officers were informed of a possible bomb, based on a threat that may have been made by using one of the employees' radios. Three policemen and seven firefighters responded.

Fire Chief Tom Jones said policemen, firemen and store managers broke into pairs, searching the identified area first then sweeping through the entire store.

The search took two hours and 10 minutes, during which the store remained evacuated. Schweder said this was the first bomb threat in Monett in the past two years.

The matter remains under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 354-8477 or 888-635-8477.
