Motorcyclist is Troop D's 50th fatality

An Ash Grove man is dead following a single-vehicle crash six miles north of Halltown.

The exact date and time of the crash are unknown, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The crash was reported at 7:58 p.m. yesterday.

The driver of a 2002 Yamaha motorcycle, Michael J. Omara. 30, travelled off the roadway, struck an embankment and landed in the field. Lawrence County Coroner Scott Lakin pronounced Omara dead at the scene.

This is the 50th fatality wreck for Troop D this year.

Other wrecks

* Two people were injured in a crash that occurred at 5:50 p.m. yesterday at the junction of Lawrence County Farm Roads 1010 and 2130. The wreck occurred when the driver of a westbound 2004 Ford Taurus, Carl E. Bowman, 49, of LaRussell, failed to stop for a stop sign and struck a 1995 GMC Sierra, driven by Jeptha T. Blackburn, 71, of Wentworth, on the passenger side. Bowman was transported by ambulance to Cox Hospital South in Springfield with moderate injuries. A passenger in the Bowman vehicle, Anna M. Gilmore, 21, of Carthage, was flown to Freeman West Hospital in Neosho with moderate injuries. According to the Patrol, Blackburn was not wearing a seat belt but Gilmore was. It is unknown whether Bowman was wearing a seat belt.
