Owners Mary and Ron White opened the eatery on June 11, offering a wide array of appetizers, entrees, seafood selections, salads, soups and sides. The family-friendly atmosphere also offers amicable competition in both the volleyball or horseshoe pits.
No strangers to the food industry, the Whites have owned The Fish Net in Aurora, Spring River Sports Bar and Grill in Verona, Outpost restaurant in Mt. Vernon and convenience stores in Verona, Blue Eye and Crane.
The name of the restaurant, "Bubba's," was inspired by both Mary White's son, Ron White Jr., and her brother, Rick McGlothlin.
"We've had a lot of traffic since we opened," Mary said. "I think we'll do well in this location. We're happy with it."
After 35 years of being in business together, the couple decided to open another restaurant because they missed their friends and customers.
"I like being around people," Mary said. "Our customers have been really nice people. They become your family."
The restaurant has daily lunch and dinner specials. Three full-time cooks keep the grills busy with their specialties in steak and seafood preparation.
"This building was a nice find," Mary said. "I'd like to find out how old the building is. There are three apartments up above that we are in the process of renovating. We will rent them out when they're finished."
Although the couple still reside outside of the Monett area, the community is appealing to them.
"Monett is a very pretty town," White said. "The people are friendly, and we are looking forward to growing our business."
Bubba's Steakhouse, Seafood and Pub is open from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday, and from 3 to 10 p.m. on Saturday. The restaurant is closed Sunday and Monday.
