Several injured in wrecks

A Golden man was injured following a single-vehicle wreck yesterday on Highway 86 three miles north of Eagle Rock.

The wreck occurred at 4:10 p.m. when the driver of a 2007 Saturn, Edward L. Smith, 64, ran off the right side of the road and struck four signs before turning over.

Smith was taken by ambulance to St. John's Hospital in Berryville, Ark., with moderate injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.

Other crashes

* Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that took place at 6:55 a.m. yesterday on Highway HH three miles west of Fairview. A report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the driver of a 2005 Dodge Ram, Clearance D. Burwell, 49, of Cassville, had stopped in the roadway to avoid a deer near the side of the road when his vehicle was hit from behind by a 1996 Oldsmobile 88, driven by Lisa Farmer, 40, of Fairview. Two passengers in the Burwell vehicle received minor injuries in the wreck. Kevin D. Burwell, 25, of Quapaw, Okla., and Laura Prewitt, 29, of Cassville, were both transported by ambulance to Freeman Hospital in Neosho for treatment. Clearance Burwell and Farmer were wearing seat belts. Kevin Burwell and Prewitt were not.

* A two-vehicle crash on Highway 112 four miles south of Cassville sent a Council Grove, Kan., woman to the hospital with minor injuries. The wreck occurred as the driver of a 2010 Chevrolet pickup truck, Kelly Lakey, 62, of Cassville, was hauling a piece of furniture with a mirror attached. The mirror came off the furniture and struck a 2004 Ford Ranger, driven by Billy G. Metcalfe, 68, of Council Grove, Kan. An occupant in the Metcalfe vehicle, Mary L. Metcalfe, 67, was taken by private vehicle to St. John's Hospital-Cassville with minor injuries. All parties involved were wearing seat belts.
