A workshop on using Missouri's native plants will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26 at the Southwest Area Career Center amphitheater in Monett. Jeff Cantrell, a local naturalist, will be the speaker. The workshop is free to the public. For more information, call Tamra Sunby at 235-7022.

The VFW Post #4207 Ladies Auxiliary will host a luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 20. The menu will include pork steak, twice-baked potato, vegetable, salad, dessert, tea and coffee. The cost is $6. The post is located west of Monett on Highway 60.

A benefit cruise-in will be held for Mary Wilson from 5 to 9 p.m. on July 23 at the EFCO south parking lot in Monett, located next to Save-A-Lot. There will be a drawing, 50/50 pot, grilled hot dogs and hamburgers. All proceeds go toward medical expenses for Mary Wilson.

A burn ban is now in effect for Pierce City until further notice, according to Fire Chief Andy Hogenmiller. Those found burning will receive a warning and second time offenders will receive a ticket to municipal court.

Bob Ball will be the guest speaker at the Purdy Library at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 23. Ball will be doing a workshop for teens on digital photography. The library is located on Highway B and Fourth Street. For more information, call 417-442-7314.

The Pierce City Senior Citizens will host a dance at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 28 at the Senior Citizens Center, located at 104 N. Locust. The event will feature the Fun Timers Band. Admission is $3, and finger foods are welcome.

Rebel's Bluff Troup will present "Barbecuing Hamlet" by Pat Cook on Aug. 5, 6 and 7 at the First Christian Church of Mt. Vernon. Proceeds will benefit the Hope Center in Mt. Vernon. On Aug. 5 and 6 there will be a dinner theatre at 6:30 p.m. for $20. The show only will be held at 8 p.m. for $10. The dinner will be catered by Maggie Mae's. On Aug. 7, there will be a show only held at 2 p.m. for $10. For ticket information, call 417-466-2985. Tickets for the show only can be bought at the door. Reservations are required for the dinner theatre by Aug. 1.

Al-Anon will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays at the First Baptist Church in Pierce City, located one-quarter mile north on Highway 97. Those attending can enter through the west wing. For more information, call 417-476-5721.

The Shell Knob Lions Club will host a community dance from 7 to 10 p.m. on July 23 at the Shell Knob Community Building. The event will feature Evelyn Lock and the Outriders Country Band.
