Heavy equipment has moved in this week and removed the floor of the Highway 97 bridge over Clear Creek.

Part of the Safe and Sound Bridge Replacement program, the new bridge will look much like the new bridge on Business Highway 60 going into Verona. The bridge will have two 12-foot lanes, wider than the current structure built in 1935, and have concrete barriers on either side.

One addition to the look of the bridge is the large white rocks placed on the banks. Missouri Department of Transportation spokesperson Wendy Bruner-Lewis said the rocks are being added on many bridges to reduce erosion.

The bridge is due to reopen in mid-September.
