The Monett City Council will meet at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6 to review the flood control plan from Olsson and Associates.

The Monett Kiwanis will meet at noon on Tuesday, July 5 at Happy House Restaurant in Monett. The guest speaker will be Murray Bishoff. He will share stories and show examples of items he has found as a collector.

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks (CBCO) will have the following blood drives: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, July 11 at St. John's Hospital-Cassville; noon to 6 p.m. on Monday, July 11 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett; 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12 at Yoder Farms in Verona; 2 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13 at Washburn First Baptist Church; and from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday, July 15 at St. John's Hospital-Aurora.

The Wheaton Volunteer Fire Department will host the 53rd annual barbecue on Saturday, July 9 at the Wheaton City Park. Barbecue chicken will be served at 11:30 a.m. and other food vendors will be available. The Monett 911 Communications Center will be testing the tornado sirens and emergency phone notification system at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 11 instead of Monday, July 4 due to the holiday. The Flood Notification System will be tested at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 11. Individuals may report any malfunctions to the Monett 911 Communications Center by calling 235-4241.

First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church in Monett will be hosting vacation Bible school from 9 a.m. to noon July 18 through July 22. The theme is "Galactic Blast" for children from preschool through fifth grade. The event is sponsored by First Christian Church, First Presbyterian Church, St. Stephen's Episcopal and Waldensian Presbyterian Church. For more information, call Pastor Ron Stair at 235-7233.

The annual Purdy Livestock Show and Festival will be held on Saturday, July 9. In addition to the livestock show, the event will offer business booths and concessions. For more information, call 417-291-5819.

The annual Kings Prairie Music Festival will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13 at the old Kings Prairie school house, located across from the Liberty Methodist Church on Farm Road 2015. A rabies clinic, sponsored by the Animal Clinic of Monett and the Pierce City Police Department, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 16 at Pierce City South Park. The cost for the shot will be $7.50. Each person having their pet vaccinated will have their name put in a drawing for a gift card from Town and Country Supermarket in Pierce City.

The Barry County Courthouse and Judicial Center in Cassville will be closed on Monday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day.
