Local man involved in police chase

Friday, July 1, 2011

A Monett man is behind bars in the Greene County Jail after leading officers on an hour-long chase that ended in Lawrence County.

Springfield Police Department officers originally attempted to stop Derrick Elston, 39, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and Elston refused to stop.

Elston led officers through the city of Springfield into unincorporated areas of Greene County, Dade County and finally Lawrence County. Greene County officers were assisted in the low-speed chase by multi-agency law enforcement officials. Elston was finally stopped in Lawrence County near County Roads 2030 and 1232.

"Elston has been charged with felony resisting arrest," said Capt. David Johnson of the Greene County Jail. "[Pursuit speeds] were never in excess of 60 miles per hour."

Elston remains in custody of the Greene County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.
