The park located east of the new Business Highway 60 bridge, south of Verona, was vandalized last week. Several pieces of playground equipment were defaced and destroyed.

The park is owned by Lyle Youngberg and provides an open area to enjoy the banks of Spring River. Lawrence County Sheriff Brad DeLay said officers were able to follow leads and locate the individual who admitted responsibility for the damage.

Restitution has been paid and Youngberg agreed not to file charges. Repairs will be made, the sheriff said.

DeLay indicated his office views vandalism as a serious matter. He was pleased the case had been resolved.
