Weather permitting, the Chapell Drive railroad crossing in Monett will be closed the week of June 27 for repairs.

The Monett City Council will meet in a special session at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28 in the Monett City Hall council room to hear public comment on the proposal to make Fourth Street one way.

The annual Bennett-Fly family reunion will be held on Sunday, June 26 at the Monett Senior Citizens Center, located at 405 Dairy St. A basket dinner will be served at noon with a business meeting and visiting to follow. All relatives and friends are invited to attend.

The Waldensian Presbyterian Church will hold its annual ice cream social beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 30. The menu will include homemade ice cream, pies and cakes, pimento cheese sandwiches, ham salad sandwiches, sloppy joes, potato chips, soft drinks, tea and coffee. The event will be held on the church grounds, located one and a half miles south of Monett on Waldensian Road. The public is invited to attend.

The Monett City Council will meet with Olsson Engineering in Springfield at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 27 concerning the Front Street waterway. They will also be meeting with Burlington Northern Railroad concerning railroad trestles on waterway at Schreiber Foods.

The Vietnam Veterans Chapter #1023 will meet at 4 p.m. on July 3 at Grant's Restaurant in Monett. For more information, call 417-271-3835.

The Pierce City Farmers Market will continue through September from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. The market is located on the corner of Highways 37 and 97. The annual Kings Prairie Music Festival will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13 at the old Kings Prairie school house, located across from the Liberty Methodist Church on Farm Road 2015. The Monett Fundamental Methodist Church will host a splash carnival from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 25. There will be a devotion at 5:30 p.m., and the carnival will begin at 6 p.m. There will be carnival games, bounce houses, hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks. The church is located on the corner of Park and 13th Streets, across from the football field. For more information, call 669-7550.

The Purdy Independence Day celebration will be held on Sunday, July 3 at the Purdy High School baseball field. Free hot dogs and hamburgers will be served at 7 p.m. There will be homemade ice cream and face painting, and fireworks will begin at dark. Those attending are asked to bring a lawn chair or blanket.

OACAC Early Head Start has immediate openings in Cassville and Verona for children ages 0 to 3. The program is a high quality child development program. Families who meet income guidelines and who are working or attending school are eligible to apply. For more information, call 235-8779.
