The annual Bennett-Fly family reunion will be held on Sunday, June 26 at the Monett Senior Citizens Center, located at 405 Dairy St. A basket dinner will be served at noon with a business meeting and visiting to follow. All relatives and friends are invited to attend.

The Waldensian Presbyterian Church will hold its annual ice cream social beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 30. The menu will include homemade ice cream, pies and cakes, pimento cheese sandwiches, ham salad sandwiches, sloppy joes, potato chips, soft drinks, tea and coffee. The event will be held on the church grounds, located one and a half miles south of Monett on Waldensian Road. The public is invited to attend.

The Barry County Area Retired School Personnel Association will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 24 at Lai Lai Restaurant in Monett. The local group will host the Lawrence County Retired Teachers, and the speaker will be from the PSRS/PEERS Retirement System. Following the program, a buffet luncheon will be held. New retirees, spouses and guests are invited to attend.

The Monett Fundamental Methodist Church will host a splash carnival from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 25. There will be a devotion at 5:30 p.m., and the carnival will begin at 6 p.m. There will be carnival games, bounce houses, hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks. The church is located on the corner of Park and 13th Streets, across from the football field. For more information, call 669-7550.

A benefit dinner for Breann Weatherly will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 25 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pierce City. Spaghetti, salad, rolls, desserts and tea will be served with a pie auction beginning at 6 p.m. For more information or to donate food items, call 417-548-7400.

The Purdy Independence Day celebration will be held on Sunday, July 3 at the Purdy High School baseball field. Free hot dogs and hamburgers will be served at 7 p.m. There will be homemade ice cream and face painting, and fireworks will begin at dark. Those attending are asked to bring a lawn chair or blanket. The event is sponsored by area churches.

OACAC Early Head Start has immediate openings in Cassville and Verona for children ages 0 to 3. The program is a high quality child development program. Families who meet income guidelines and who are working or attending school are eligible to apply. For more information, call 235-8779.

The annual Purdy Livestock Show and Festival will be held on Saturday, July 9. In addition to the livestock show, the event will offer business booths and concessions. For more information, call 417-291-5819.

Registration for the Purdy Schools Alumni Association's annual meeting will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 25. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. The meeting includes a scholarship recipient giving a profile presentation of the Purdy Schools for the 2010-11 year. Groups to be recognized include the 50-year Class of 1961, faculty members, board members, school administrators and three scholarship recipients from the Class of 2011. The meeting will conclude with a business session.
