The Monett R-1 Board of Education held a special meeting recently to move forward on summer improvement projects.
Contracts were approved for major work at Central Park Elementary School. A second bid from Bales Construction was $13,000 higher.
A bid was accepted from Gerkin Environmental Enterprises to remove the current tile and mastic from the hallways and cafeteria at Central Park. Cost will be $29,945.
Work by both contractors will be completed before classes begin in August.
The board voted to hire three new teachers for the coming year.

Gary Brown was hired as a special education teacher at Central Park. Brown recently completed student teaching in Ozark.
Dana Ritter was hired as a speech implementor, coming to Monett from the Hurley district.
Two resignations were approved. Jared Brown, assistant band director, resigned to take the job of band director at Republic. Joan Head, who has taught sixth grade in Monett for 31 years, submitted a letter announcing her retirement.
