The Waldensian Presbyterian Church will hold its annual ice cream social beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 30. The menu will be homemade ice cream, pies and cakes, pimento cheese sandwiches, ham salad sandwiches, sloppy joes, potato chips, soft drinks, tea and coffee. The event will be held on the church grounds, located one and one-half miles south of Monett on Waldensian Road. The public is invited to attend.

A benefit will be held for Joplin at 3 p.m. on June 18 at Harvest Church, located at 21172 Farm Road 1200, in Aurora. Donations will be taken at the door. Performances will be given by Amy Sampson, Edenbound, Consumed by Fire, Hells Enemy, Saving Silence and Okkoto. All proceeds will be donated to the Joplin relief effort by Harvest Church Food Pantry. St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, of Monett, will host a Mass in the Park followed by a picnic on Saturday, June 18, at Monett South Park, across from the golf course. The Mass will begin at 11 a.m. and will feature special music by the Quick and the Dead, a musical group from St. John's Episcopal Church, in Kansas City. The event is part of a larger series of events being held by a group of Episcopal Churches in the Ozarks, EChO, meeting together to strengthen ministries in the Ozarks. For the picnic, St. Stephen's will provide the meat, drinks, plates and plasticware for the picnic and those attending are asked to bring a covered dish. The public is invited to attend.

The Lawrence County Gospel Sing will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 26 at the Freewill Faith and Hope Baptist Church, located on 619 N. Elliott, in Aurora. All visitors, singers and musicians are invited.

OACAC Early Head Start has immediate openings in Cassville and Verona for children ages 0-3. The program is a high quality child development program. Families who meet income guidelines and who are working or attending school are eligible to apply. For more information, call 235-8779.

The Ozarks Prairie Presbyterian Brick Church will host an old-fashioned ice cream social at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 10. The church is located at 15032 Lawrence 2077, five miles north and east of Mt. Vernon. For more information, call 417-466-3572.

The Shell Knob Lions Club will host a community dance from 7 to 10 p.m. on July 23 at the Shell Knob CCommunity Building. The event will feature Evelyn Lock and the Outriders Country Band. The Bluecoats marching band corps will perform at 7:30 p.m. today at Burl Fowler Stadium. The performance is free.

The First Baptist Church Lee's Summit youth choir will be in concert at First Baptist Church in Monett, 2581 Highway 37 South, on Saturday, June 18 at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
