Monett Community Kitchen work continues

Thursday, June 16, 2011

The Community Kitchen in Monett is continuing its service with a few changes as the summer season kicks in.

As of May 31, the kitchen had served a total of 6,784 meals out of the First United Methodist Church. According to spokesperson Brenda Davis, meals continue to be served on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and on Saturday from noon to 1 p.m.

Pick-up locations have changed. People can now get rides to the Community Kitchen from the parking lot at the Fundamental Methodist Church at Thirteenth and Park streets, at the Sunset Villa apartments, at Stars Restaurant at First and E. Broadway, and at the parking lot corner of Third and Cale.

The kitchen is now serving a summer menu, Davis said, including items such as hamburgers, hot dogs, fresh vegetables and soup.

"We continue to need desserts, fresh produce and paper goods," said Charlene Dart, co-director of the Community Kitchen with Steve Stidham. "We want to thank the community for its prayers, support and the volunteering of time."

Anyone interested in volunteering to serve meals can contact Marie Medlin at 235-8283. Questions about the Community Kitchen and requests for a ride can be directed to Dart at 235-2364.
