The proclamation follows:
Whereas, the Missouri Retired Teachers Association and Public School Personnel (MRTA) recognizes and honors education employees who have retired from active teaching, administration, or as support personnel; and
Whereas, MRTA was founded in 1960, with currently more than 19,000 members; and
Whereas, MRTA works to protect, promote and enhance educator retirement benefits; and
Whereas, education is the foundation of our society and MRTA aids in advancing public education by supporting high standards of educator experience and education, thereby strengthening the status of the teaching profession; and
Whereas, MRTA promotes group and individual involvement in charitable projects and activities, sponsors scholarships/classroom grants, and maintains interest and participation in educational and community activities.
Now, therefore, I, James Orr, Mayor of the City of Monett, Missouri do hereby proclaim June 8, 2011, to be Missouri Retired Educators Day by recognizing and commending the significant contributions of Missouri's teachers and support personnel.
