Monett Mayor Jim Orr has signed a proclamation declaring June 8 as Missouri Retired Educators Day. Barry County Retired School Personnel requested the action to recognize the contribution of professional educators to the community.

The proclamation follows:

Whereas, the Missouri Retired Teachers Association and Public School Personnel (MRTA) recognizes and honors education employees who have retired from active teaching, administration, or as support personnel; and

Whereas, MRTA was founded in 1960, with currently more than 19,000 members; and

Whereas, MRTA works to protect, promote and enhance educator retirement benefits; and

Whereas, education is the foundation of our society and MRTA aids in advancing public education by supporting high standards of educator experience and education, thereby strengthening the status of the teaching profession; and

Whereas, MRTA promotes group and individual involvement in charitable projects and activities, sponsors scholarships/classroom grants, and maintains interest and participation in educational and community activities.

Now, therefore, I, James Orr, Mayor of the City of Monett, Missouri do hereby proclaim June 8, 2011, to be Missouri Retired Educators Day by recognizing and commending the significant contributions of Missouri's teachers and support personnel.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand 3and caused to be affixed the Seal of the City of Monett, in the City of Monett, Missouri this 8th day of June, 2011.

/s/ James Orr, Mayor
