The 10th annual Sertoma Grin Iron Classic kicks off Friday, June 3 at JFK Stadium at Parkview High School in Springfield.
The 2011 game features 89 athletes and 18 coaches from southwest Missouri, all selected by the SW Missouri High School Football Coaches Association.
Local area players slated to participate are: Ryno Johnson, of Monett; Aaron Crouch, of Pierce City; Jacoby Stonecypher, of Aurora; Nick Zavala, of Marionville; Blake Grooms, of Mt. Vernon; and Trent Tanner, Devin Linenbrink, Garrett Mahurin and Josh Lewright, all of Cassville.
The annual all-star football game has grown into a tradition for area seniors and their families, celebrating the final football game in the athletes' high school careers.
The Grin Iron Classic also serves as a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, also known as the Tooth Truck, a mobile dental clinic for at-risk children who lack access to dental care.
Since its inception in 2002, the Tooth Truck has helped nearly 11,000 children with dental treatment valued at more than $6.4 million through 30,000 dental appointments.
The Grin Iron Classic is presented by Delta Dental of Missouri and the Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma Club.
Although the game is the main attraction, there will be other activities for children and families to participate in throughout the evening, including an official Kansas City Chiefs punt, pass and kick
Competition that begins at 4 p.m. and is open to children ages 6 through 15. Participants may visit ww.nflppk.com/competitions/register/index/7355 to register in advance or they may register onsite. There is no cost to participate.
In celebration of the Grin Iron Classic's 10th anniversary, all alumni are invited to the game and will receive complimentary tickets.
