Missouri Weekly Hay Summary Week ending 6/03/11

Thursday, June 2, 2011

Farmers finally got in the hay fields this week and went to work burning fuel
and rolling bales as fast as equipment would allow. Reports of quality and
yields are varied. Generally most producers are saying hay is short but the
undergrowth and is heavy which means lots of leafy matter rather than stems.
That scenario means increased palatability and generally leads to higher
quality test results. Hay prices are steady as the new crop market hasnít
really had much test yet although several producers are pricing hay in the
field. Supply moderate and demand of hay light. Missouri Department of
Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be
listed, or for a directory, visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ or for
