To mark the official start of summer, the Monett pool opens for the season tomorrow at 1 p.m. A group of over 25 certified lifeguards will man the pool throughout the summer under the management of the Monett Area YMCA.

The pool will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Monett YMCA members have free access to the pool all summer long. Non-members can swim for $3 a day or buy a season pass that costs $70 for individuals or $175 for families.

In addition to open swim, the Monett pool will offer lap swim, family nights, swim lessons and water aerobics classes. The pool is also available to rent for parties at a rate of $90 per hour.

Family Nights will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. each Saturday. Families can enjoy the pool for $5 during the two-hour swim time. Family season pass holders and YMCA members can take part in the events at no cost.

The Monett YMCA will offer four different Learn-to-Swim Program sessions this summer. Three levels of instruction will be offered to 3- to 5-year-old students, and four swim levels will be offered for children who are over 6 years of age.

Four different sessions of lessons will be offered this year as follows: session one, June 6 through June 16; session two, June 20 through June 30; session three, July 5 through July 14; and session four, July 18 through July 28.

Swim lessons, which are held at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, last around 45 minutes. YMCA members can take part in swim lessons for $25 per session. The fee for non-members is $45 per session.

The Monett YMCA also offers private swimming lessons by appointment at a cost of $75 for six lessons.

Aquababies, Aquasize and Guard Start classes will also be offered this summer.

Aquababies, a class for infants and preschoolers, and Aquasize, an energetic exercise class for any age, are offered free to YMCA members and $25 for non-members. Guard Start, which is for 11- to 16-year-old students who are interested in working at the pool in the future, costs $25.

Lap swim hours will be offered from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Lap swims cost $1 per visit, and lanes must be reserved in advance.
