The inaugural Give a Hoot 5K and one-mile fun run event took place Saturday night during Monett's Relay For Life event. The two events attracted 48 runners. The Monett fire department, rural fire department and police were instrumental in making this event a success by helping to illuminate the routes, block traffic when needed and keep everyone safe. The Monett Area YMCA also donated their timing system. Event sponsors included: Monett Rental and Sales; Clifton Wells Auctioneer; Lawrence Trophy; and Adrenaline Apparel and Design. The winners in each age group are pictured above. In the front row, from left, are: Brenda Hohensee, Madeline Weber, Carissa Groesbeck and Niki Weber. Second row: Jennifer Rhymer, Kirby Still, Micah Miller and Ryan Holz.
Running for a purpose. Chris Renteria and Jessica Kutz won overall male and female race honors at the inaugural Give a Hoot 5K run on Saturday. Renteria recorded a time of 17:09, and Kutz finished in 21:54.
