Monett R-1 district fills teaching posts

The Monett R-1 Board of Education filled its teaching vacancies for the 2011-12 school year by hiring 12 employees at its May meeting.

Two more vacancies opened at the meeting as the board accepted resignations from two fourth grade teachers, Brenna Zucca and Michael Spain.

The following people were hired:

* Amber Nicholson as high school math teacher. Nicholson is a first-year teacher, having earned her bachelor's degree from Missouri State University. Nicholson did her student teaching at two Springfield high schools.

* Kourtney Brown was hired as a third grade teacher at Central Park Elementary. Brown is a first-year teacher having recently graduated from Missouri State University.

* Tanna Turner was hired as a fourth grade teacher at Central Park Elementary. Turner is a first-year teacher and a recent graduate of Pittsburg State University.

* James Genzler was hired as a social studies teacher at the middle school and as assistant varsity football coach. Genzler received his bachelor's degree from Drury University, taught for a year in Cassville and has worked for the past two years in the Republic School District.

* Danielle Brown was hired as a third grade teacher at Central Park Elementary. She is a first-year teacher and a graduate of Missouri State University from the Mountain View-Birch Tree area.

* Kari Marshall was hired as a special education teacher at Monett Intermediate School. Marshall has eight years teaching experience in Kansas. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska and lives in Cassville.

* Kelli Hartman was hired as a third grade teacher at Central Park Elementary. Hartman is a first-year teacher and a graduate from Missouri State University. She earned an arts degree in Flint, Mich., in 2000 and has worked in marketing and retail business.

* Erin Duggan was hired to teach social studies at Monett Middle School. She is a first-year teacher with a master's degree from the University of Central Arkansas.

* Amber Holman was hired to teach girls physical education and health and to coach volleyball and track at Monett Middle School. Holman has taught for eight years and has worked since 2005 at the Pierce City School District. She lives in Monett.

* Amanda Hedgpeth was hired to teach at Monett Intermediate School. Hedgpeth is a December 2011 graduate from Missouri State University and has worked as a substitute teacher in Strafford.

* Jamie Rutherford was hired to teach at Monett Elementary School. Rutherford is a 2006 Monett High School graduate with a teaching degree from Missouri State University who has been a substitute teacher for Monett this year.

* Kayla Offill was hired to teach kindergarten. Offill is a first-year teacher with a master's degree from Missouri State University who lives in Nixa.
