Monday, May 23, 2011 ~ Updated 2:12 PM

The Monett R-1 School District is working to help coordinate a community-wide effort to help those in need of assistance after the devastating tornados in Joplin on Sunday. The district will be taking donations at the Southwest Area Career Center in Monett today (Monday, May 23) and tomorrow (Tuesday, May 24) until 9 p.m. for those desiring to donate.

Items needed immediately are bottled water, baby formula, diapers, baby wipes, non-perishable food items, blankets, personal hygiene items and any financial assistance. The district will also be taking financial donations at all campus offices. All items donated will be forwarded to the Salvation Army and/or the Red Cross.

"We thank you in advance for your support of our neighbors in Joplin who are in need of immediate assistance," said Julie Germann, assistant superintendent of the R-1 District.
