Last Friday, Monett Mayor Jim Orr signed a proclamation in honor of National Drug Court Month. The ceremony took place at Monett City Hall.

In signing the proclamation, Mayor Orr declared "Drug Court Month" be established during the month of May in the City of Monett, "recognizing the significant contributions drug courts have made toward reducing substance abuse, crime and recidivism while saving valuable resources."

Since 1994, the drug court movement has grown from 12 drug courts to over 2,500 operational drug courts today. The Barry County Drug Court has been operating since May of 2008. Lawrence County just began its drug court program last month.
