Purdy's Roller finishes at state

Friday, May 20, 2011

Purdy's Phillips Roller finished 48 out of 91 golfers in the Class 1 state golf tournament at Sedalia Country Club in Sedalia on Tuesday.

Roller, a sophomore, recorded an 86 on the first day of competition and a 90 on day two.

"Phillip has put together two great years of golf while at Purdy," said Coach Grant Young. "He has a tremendous up side to his game. Phillip will continue to improve and could challenge for a state title."

Roller also qualified for the state tournament as a freshman. This season he helped the Eagles clinch the school's first district title in golf.

"Phillip is a hard worker," said Young. "His best golf is still in front of him as long as he continues to put effort into his training."
