The Angel Food Ministry orders for May can be picked up from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 21 at the First Presbyterian Church of Monett, located at 700 Sycamore St.

The United Methodist Men's breakfast will be held at 7 a.m. on Friday, May 20 at Grant's Restaurant in Monett. For more information, call Don Bates at 236-2281.

A benefit spaghetti and auction will be held on Saturday, May 21 at the Crane Community Center. The dinner will be held at 5 p.m. with the auction to follow. The cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children ages 10 and under. Proceeds will go toward increasing the reward in the efforts to locate the missing Willard couple, Rebecca and Rusty Porter.

The Liberty Cemetery Association will meet at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 22 in the fellowship hall of Liberty United Methodist Church, located north of Monett. Business and plans for the future will be discussed followed by refreshments.

A Hitched and Happy Marriage workshop will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett for six Wednesdays beginning on May 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is a one-time fee of $25 per couple, which includes six meals for the couple. To register, call Operation Us at 417-823-3469 or visit

The Shoeboxes for Soldiers July Fourth collection campaign is underway and will continue through June 4. Area residents can deliver their packages and donations at the following drop-off sites: the Pierce City National Guard Armory; the Monett National Guard Armory; UMB Bank on Broadway in Monett; The Bayou restaurant in Monett; and the Monett American Legion (Tuesdays only from 1 to 4 p.m.).

The Barry County Council on Aging will meet at 10 a.m. on May 24 at the Monett Senior Center, located on Dairy Street.

The Kings Prairie Special Road District commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24 at Grant's Restaurant in Monett.

A book signing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 21 at the Keen Bean in Mt. Vernon and from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Mt. Vernon Library. The event will feature Laurence Stoll, local author of "The Happy Accident."

The Monett Sportsmen's League will be hosting a fishing derby from 8 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 21 at Monett South Park. The event is for children 15 years and younger. Bait will be furnished, and refreshments will be provided.

The Barry County Republican Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24 for a barbecue and cook-out at the home of Jerry and Barbara White, located south of Purdy on Highway 37. Fohn's will provide the meat, and each family attending is asked to bring a covered dish, salad or dessert. Keynote speakers will be Senator Jack Goodman and Representative David Sater. The public is invited to attend.

A car, truck and bike cruise-in will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 28 at George's Store, located at 103 Pin Oak on the corner of Highways 60 and Business 60 in Aurora.
